Voice issues?

Almost every singer has experienced it at some point after a performance or intense practice: voice fatigue. Your voice feels heavy or tired and may sound hoarse. Often, this resolves within a day—but what if it doesn’t?

Time to take action!

If your voice doesn’t recover within two days, it means your recovery time is longer than usual. This also applies to voice issues with a clear cause, such as increased strain from a performance. If your voice problems persist for more than three weeks without being related to illness (like a cold or flu), it’s advisable to seek help from a speech-language pathologist. I offer 1:1 sessions to guide you. Curious about what a voice therapy program entails? Here’s how my approach works:

Getting started is simple. Take the first step by emailing info@stemweijs.nl or or filling out the contact form. Usually, you’ll receive a response within two business days.

Getting to know you

We schedule an initial appointment to explore what your voice needs to function at its best. This can be done online or at Bestemming Bereikt in Utrecht. Voice work is always tailored, and the exercises must fit your voice’s current needs. How do we figure that out?

I start by asking a series of questions about your voice and the nature of your symptoms. Next, we examine your voice in more detail. This may include asking you to perform specific vocal exercises, assessing muscle tension in the neck manually, or performing an acoustic voice analysis.

With this information, I can determine what’s needed to alleviate your voice problems and which aspects of your voice require training. Together, we create a plan and get started!

Voice therapy sessions

During the sessions, we work step by step to improve your voice and reduce symptoms. When the voice is trained with the right tools, many voice problems improve within 6 to 8 sessions.

We continuously monitor progress, evaluate improvements, and adjust the plan if needed. Sometimes, in addition to exercises, it’s necessary to release tension in the neck muscles. You can read more about this on the page about manual circumlaryngeal therapy.

Is an online session as effective as an in-person session?

Yes. In my experience, online sessions can achieve the same results as in-person sessions. Client satisfaction is also comparable between online and in-person sessions.

Can the voice be assessed just as well online?

Many aspects of the voice can be assessed online well enough to create an appropriate voice plan. I use professional audio equipment to ensure examples are clearly heard. The reliability of subtle sound details depends on the quality of your equipment and connection. While in-person assessment may sometimes be more accurate, it is not a barrier to improving your voice.

What do I need for an online session?

The most important requirement is a stable internet connection. A good microphone is helpful but not mandatory.

What are the costs?

  • Online practice session (30 min.): €45
  • Online introduction session (60 min.) – intake, assessment, and plan: €90
  • For in-person sessions, the rates of Bestemming Bereikt apply. You can find them here.
